What kind of grass do I need?Cary Sod & Drainage regularly install a variety of turfgrasses for our customers based on individual preferences and the area in which the sod will be placed. Cary Sod & Drainage Owner/Operator, Andrew DeSmidt, strongly recommends Zoysia [hyperlink “Zoysia” to the sod page] turgrasses to our customers as this warm-season grass tends to perform best in our local climate and soil type. Zoysia is a low-maintenance grass that is drought tolerant. Why use sod?
Sodding is the best method of establishing a new lawn for a variety of reasons. First, it the amount of time to a “finished” lawn is minimal. Your lawn will look green and lush immediately after installation and it only takes a few weeks for the sod to be established. Second, using sod nearly guarantees weed-free installation and even turfgrass growth. These are two things difficult to control when seeding. Finally, overtime, sodding is less expensive than seeding. This is because seeding can take a great deal of time, maintenance work, and repair efforts over the years it takes to ensure a well-established lawn by seeding. Having a lush lawn installed by our professionals at Cary Sod & Drainage also increases your property value immediately as a fresh green lawn adds great aesthetic appeal to your home. How often should I water my newly installed sod?
Generally, we recommend newly installed lawns receive 1” of water per week. If rainfall meets that amount, property owners need not supply more water. Shaded areas may require less than the recommended 1” per week. When is the best time to install sod?
Due to our temperate climate, warm-season grasses can be installed from early spring to late fall in the Cary, NC area. Cool-season grass such as Tall Fescue can be installed at any time of year with the exception of the hottest summer months.
